My Design Brief

The design brief that I have been given for this piece of assessment is to work collaboratively in a group with the rest of my class in order to develop a marketing campaign to promote the idea and actions of ‘Meatless Mondays’ within our school tuckshop. It also states that I am to work individually on parts of the assessment such as constantly updating my own blog with thoughts and opinions on the recipes and any ideas and brainstorming activities that I am involved in. This project has a trial period of 1 month and within this time, meat-free recipes that have been trialled and tested are to be sold within the tuckshop. By end of this time frame, the tuckshop convenor will deem the campaign as successful or unsuccessful and will give their opinion on whether the project is a viable option and has the success and potential to be continued.
Through studies previously undertaken this term about the ‘Meatrix’ program and the promotion of having ‘Meat Free Mondays’ (which is the slogan used for our version of the previous ‘Meatless Mondays’ campaign), I have recently learnt that meat is not the healthiest food when overconsumption occurs and when it does, can actually have negative effects on the body. By using the idea of ‘Meatless Mondays’ and implementing it within our school community, our class group can help to educate people about the impacts of consuming too much such as that it is not only costly and unhealthy for the consumer but is also bad for the environment.
Since 2009, the campaign of ‘Meatless Monday’ has been promoting awareness of the effects of overconsumption of meat products. Their aim is to try and implement the message of the benefits of having one day per week where no meat is eaten in order to advocate a healthier lifestyle. By eliminating the consumption of meat for at least one day per week, some of the environmental benefits that could come of it include: less pollution from provider factories and warehouses, promoting the protection of animal rights, and can help reduce water usage, carbon footprints, fossil fuel dependence and  methane emissions (which contribute to Global Warming). There are many health benefits too such as: the prevention of obesity, reducing the risks of chronic preventable diseases and improving overall health.

The official ‘Meatless Mondays’ website states that. “To build a better world in the future we all need to make changes in our lifestyles now. Not all the changes we have to make are easy; and not all the easy changes we can make are meaningful. But making just one day a week a meat-free day, really is the little thing that can make a big difference."
